My 20 year old AD left her inpatient recovery program Monday and moved to a Half Way house. Her therapist advised against it, I advised against it but she wanted more freedom.

Grandma bought her a car 2 weeks ago and that day she drove 60 miles to go do Coke and smoke weed.

This after 60 days sober. (We were so proud)

We were very deflated and I've truly accepted that I CANNOT LOVE AWAY HER ADDICTION.

I am giving her to God and asking that he keep her safe.

That is all I can do and go on living my life.

I'm not giving up on her, I'm just giving her to my Higher Power whom I call God as he and she are the only ones who can save her.

This is a very difficult lesson to learn, its taken me 4+ years but this relapse slapped me into reality.

This and Nar-Anon which has truly saved my sanity and my life. When in the insanity, find sanity with Nar-Anon!

I've had to do the very same thing with both of my ADs. I know how disappointing it is, but as you said, we can find sanity!

No truer words have ever been spoken. Just ask probably 99% of the posters here. I loved my xabf more than I ever thought I could love another human being, but to no avail. I couldn't live trying to "love him sober" anymore. I just got tired.
