Day 9, struggling with guilt
Hi everyone,
Made it through my first sober weekend in over a year and I feel good about that and positive about my recovery. I am having a hard time dealing with my last drinking episode, while other ppl can laugh about their stupidity I beat myself up for days and weeks. This is why I always drank again to get rid of the anxiety.
Just reaching out for support as I am serious again and know that I have to ride this guilty, embarrassed phase out.
Help.....

I have the same problem:being harder on myself than anyone else could ever be. I am learning to give myself the same compassion and respect I give to others. Please try to be kinder and more gentle with yourself. Beating yourself up can only hurt you.
Congrats on nine sober days!!

Yep, ride it out.
I kind of know how you feel. Guilt has always been a companion of mine.
Time has a way of putting things in perspective. Maybe you are a lot like me and tend to see things as more severe after they happen than they seem weeks down the road.
Try your best to calmly find that part of you that can say "I'm anxious, but I don't want to drink and repeat this cycle again." That's my advice.
Take care; you're stronger than you think.

Yeah! I know that guilty feeling very well!
The first 90 days of sobriety was just one guilty moment after another. My counselor at my treatment center said this is totally normal. Remember that your brain is damaged right now and your disease is trying to get you to relapse.
Just keep moving forward and whatever you do, don't use! This will pass! It really will!
Thoughts and prayers....
