Greetings

Hello everyone!

This is my first post on SR. I have been lurking for a few weeks. Sorry, but I am stand-offish even in person. Just getting a feel of the place before I jump into the conversations.

How I found you: doing research on the internet to find out about chirosis of the liver.

Someone I know was hospitalized with chirosis of the liver and other complications. This was my wake up call! BAM!

I am on day 21 sober. I am feeling better, mentally and physically, than I have in a long time. I have tried to stay away from alcohol before and failed. This time I seem to have my head and heart on the same page. The head and heart are in complete agreement:
I can not control my drinking, my drinking controls me!

I am reading "Under The Influence". Thank you for posting excerpts from that book on this website. It has been a tremendous help to me! I am also reading "Anatomy of the Spirit" by Caroline Myss.

The positive energy and support here are amazing. Thank you all for sharing!

Thanks for the warm welcome!

There are some terrific tips available here. One suggestion for beginning sobriety was to watch movies. I did not get it at first, but I did try it, and guess what I learned?!

I learned that I had not rented movies in years. I learned that watching TV shows like 30 minute sitcoms, hour long mini series, and made for TV movies all provided commercial breaks. Those commercial breaks gave me plenty of time to refill my beverage of choice!:wtf2

Now I am enjoying rented movies, start to finish, while sipping on my water or tea.

I am thankful that the anxiety and panic feelings of early sobriety have disappeared and now I can relax and enjoy a movie. What an accomplishment!

Welcome to our recovery community...

If you look towards the back of 'Under The Influence"
you will see an eating plan + suppliment suggestions.
I did that for about 6 months with good results.

Please keep posting...Yes! you too can win over alcohol
