Jamiettt, a couple of questions.

What happens when you start drinking?
What is your experience with stopping (how long have you gone without a drink)?

Welcome.

hi jamie, welcome to sr!when you realize you have a problem..those are the first steps in recovery.it took me 18 ys to get here.i began drinking at 17 only because my mom was real strict.i wish she was still here to see how i've tranformed.unfortunately thats not my story but it could be yours.during active use we often say and do things so f'd up to those we care most about.for yrs and yrs i blamed everyone but me.but the truth is it was me.a drunk high couldnt tell me nothing type that had to pay the cost.i have 18yrs of regret but you know no day is too late to get help.the best time is now when your in the reality that this sucks..doing things you dont want 2 do for a feel good that doesnt feel good when youre back in reality.have you checked out a/a?its a really great program its saved my life.im praying 4 you to continue stepping in the right direction.read some posts here i've found them uplifting and motivating.we all have the same disease but thank god theres remission one day at a time..keep us posted.:ghug2

Welcome Jamie. This is a good first step. I came here about a year ago and listened and typed a couple threads and then left for about a year. Things got worse for me. The diesease progresses. This place offers a lot of support and positive reinforcement not to drink, which is hard to find. Everywhere else it seems acceptable. But it isn't if you have a problem with alcohol as so many people do. This website has been my only recovery tool and I haven't had a drink for 54 days because of it. My new record since I don't know how long on abstaining from alcohol. I'm 32 years old. This could be the best gift you ever give to your future self.

Hi Jamie - another newbie here. You've made the right decision in coming on here - there seems to be plenty of support around.

Welcome.
sometimes im able too have a cpl of beers and not get drunk just buzzed....but i find most of the time i dont have anything too do the next day i get blackout drunk and cant remeber the last hour or so of my drinking. the longest i've ever gone without drinking is probably like a week or 10 days. lately ive noticed shaky ness in my hands a day or too later...and my anxiety increases incredibly.

Welome from a fellow Canadian!

Good for you for stopping drinking! The physical effects of stopping went away for me after a week or two. If you're at all concerned about it, though, just pop on over to the doctor...there's a lot of options out there to help you stop.
