No money, legal problems, I really want a...

vacation.

Lying on a beach sipping mango juice would be so much nicer than oatmeal and cheap, instant coffee watching the rain not let up.

Seems like for every week I'd spend binging sets the rest of my life would get set back by two months. I had tentative plans to go back to school, do a little traveling and start settling down with a nice lady.

Today all I've got is a few good prayers and six days. Oh, and my oatmeal came out *perfect*

Congratulations on having a few good prayers and six days of sobriety.

What more could a person want? Perfect oatmeal?

Never neglect the small pleasures in life, right?

Oatmeal is my anti-drug.

Then that means it's time to start making more oatmeal and tons of it. Plus, it keeps your mind occupied on something positive.
It is a win/win situation all the way.

Never heard of oatmeal? It's just oats and water/milk cooked to a mush. Nothing spectacular until you flavor it.

Six days, yes! A very busy six days, feels like it's been a month.

My sense of humor is my coping mechanism. I'd have have been committed to a mental institution (like the poor fellow in my avatar) if it wasn't for it

nogard - Porridge! I was trying to remember what other English name for it was!

"When I woke up this morning, things were lookin' bad
Seem like total silence was the only friend I had
Bowl of oatmeal tried to stare me down... and won
And it was twelve o'clock before I realized
That I was havin' .. no fun

Chorus:
But fortunately I have the key to escape reality
And you may see me tonight with an illegal smile
It don't cost very much, but it lasts a long while
Won't you please tell the man I didn't kill anyone
No I'm just tryin' to have me some fun..."

Now while many a soul has taken the lyrics of this song to denote consuming a particular plant product by breathing its fumes, the writer, John Prine, claims his "illegal smile" is simply him smiling at all the absurdities he sees everyday and having an inside joke with himself.

P.S. Man, don't let Nurse Ratched keep your cigs--break some windows and catch some fish! (Just don't pass out and let the man give you a lontal frobotamy).

Good luck to you and congrats on one week!

Isaiah,

Congratulations on your sober time!

It can be kind of overwhelming trying to solve the problems that our addiction created, but focusing on a yummy bowl of oatmeal can make everything seem much easier!
