Smile hi

Now on day 3 and feeling good so far i am going to try and not worry about tommorow or think about it as the more i worry the more it is dangerous for me. I have written out a list of things to do ad pinned it on the wall which will help i hope.

sparkey what I and many others have found is the acronym HOW.

Honesty

Open mindedness

Willingness

are the 3 keys to getting and staying sober.

I had to be honest with myself and my mental condition to see when I was starting to think a drink was a good idea.

I had to be open minded enough to look at things I had not tried with an open mind forgetting any prejudice or preconcieved ideas I had.

I had to be willing to try something new that I had not tried before to stay sober and happy.

sparkey the list you made is a great idea. I would suggest this, write down everything you are now doing on the left side of the paper, then on the right side of the paper write down things other people who are staying sober are doing that you are not doing.

Now any time you honestly find your self thinking a drink is a good idea, with an open mind take a look on the right side of the paper of things others are doing to stay sober that is working for them and be willing to move it over to the left side of your list and start doing that in addition to what you were already doing.

Hi Sparkey,

Good for you!

Focusing on the moment is hard, but you're right, it does help!

Talking

:bouncethanks for all your replys will try that out tazman53!

I am willing to try anything within reason:ghug I also have done some tools from another site called smart recovery cost benefit anaysis, ABcs and writing down what happened when i have slipped in the past as i then i can learn what my triggers are and how to change them or to plan against them occuring again.

I have various triggers one of the main one's is evening times especially on thursdays, fridays, and after 7pm normally as i used to drink in evening. I also am avoiding certain people as they can also be triggers especially if they rather see me drinking i dont need these people right now in my life to get sober.

I am strating a couple of courses as well in september which will also help my confidence around people as i am a very shy person and tended to use drink to relax around people.

anyway sorry for going on but i am really glad i found you guys here:ghug

Way to go Sparky!!!!! Keep up the good work...take care of YOU !!!! That's the most important thing I have learned is that My sobriety has to be #1..... Do whatever it takes not to drink just for today....just for a hour....just for this minute....
Congrats!!!!!

Welcome Sparky. I understand the dreaded evenings, being a nightime drinker myself I find projects to keep my hands and mind busy...at first I spent most of my evenings right here...it helps!Hang around and keep us posted..we are all doing it one moment at a time with you!!!:ghug
