Thumbs down My Friends & Family Answer to OMG#2

Thank you everyone for your reply's.

I have some family but they don't help. They are all about there needs. They don't think it matters that my husband is gone. ex: When my daughter says she misses them they tell her to get over it and stop (she is 3). They aren't the type to think about how other ppl may be feeling or dealing with things. I have an apt on the 30th to have surgery so that I don't go into the ER and they aren't even willing to watch my kids for that. I am trying to take care of both my children and myself but there always seems to be something standing in my way. Another reason why I feel like using, then I wouldn't care so much.

I don't have many friends. The few I do have are not ready to take care of two children on their own or two extra chuildren not their own. I was using till I found out I was pregnant and dropped all the friends that I had cause they also used. So since I got pregnant my whole life has been about my family. I'm not good at making friends and it seems the friends I choose always seem to come with drama that I can't have my own children around. Idk what it is with me and ppl who need help. I always atract them. I help them as well as I can but they are never able to help me. I guess I don't do good in the finding friends field.

I looked at the MOP site that was listed and the closest one to me is 93miles away. I have been looking for things like that for months now. Everything I find for mothers needs a babysitter and that is something that I just don't have.

Crystal - We'll figure this out. There's got to be something. I'm from upstate New York - Marcellus area. I have never heard of Watervliet and don't know where that is. Are there other military wives in the area? Are you on a base? I have a girlfriend whose husband is military also. We have a lot of military men and women here in Albuquerque. I can unde rstand the trapped feelings. You probably checked out AA? I was told some of them have babysitting and if not, you could go and bring your kids and inquire in person. Tell them your situation and maybe they can set something up. I know I would if you were closer. People are basically kind and if you reach out for help they generally will extend a hand. Let's keep thinking people!

Crystal- I'm in NJ and would if I could be there to help in a heart beat!

Have you tried maybe listing on Craigs list for a sitter in your area? Just another thought...

And what I would also do is inquire like Horse said too!

Hang in there Keep us posted

Hi,

I was a military wife for 22 years and moved constantly and never had family around to help with kids.

Check out your local Public Library. They almost always have Story Hour times for small children. You can take your kids there and meet other Moms at the same time. Some communities also have Community Resource Centre for parents and caregivers. Check out that possibility. If you really look around your community, I think you'll find something. There is always going to be a reason to use/drink so I hope you believe it's not an option.

I have keep a distance from some members of my family too. Removing toxic, unsupportive people from my life was a blessing.

Ok..sry..more questions.
Have you tried social services? I dont know what county watervliet is in. Rennselaer or Albany. But I know they provide help with child care. I know Saratoga county does.
Actually..My sister gets help through social services and she works fulltime and makes like $13 an hour. She lives in Amsterdam. I dont see why they couldnt help you too.
Just hang in there.
