I went to the doctor
So...my appointment with my doctor wasn't going to be able to happen until Sept.17th, as he's semi-retired and always out of town. Today I realized that I just couldn't wait any longer to see if I've done permanent damage to myself with the drinking. I went to my clinic and sat for two hours waiting for the doctor-on-call...told him I have 44 days today and want to know the extent of the damage I might have done my liver. I told him of the pain in my side I'd had the last few weeks of drinking and how it's gone now. Sat through a few tubes of blood being taken and will know within 48 hours if anything's amiss.
I feel good for having gone. Not knowing isn't going to help if there's a problem.
However....I'm a bit afraid that if I get the all-clear, I might use that as another excuse to start drinking again. My goodness, what an f-ed up brain I have!

Hey dancinggirl, this thread started today, don't know if you saw it... Food for thought!

Relapsing sucks. Save yourself the trouble and read about someone else's

PLease don't use anything as an excuse to relapse. You know you'll be mad at yourself if you do and will have to start over. Stay where you are now - outside of a bottle. No fun in that bottle anymore anyway. You can do it, I have faith in you!

Yeah, DG, keep us posted...(I've been having a pain in my side, too...Yeah, I know...no medical advice...)
You're aware that you may use it as an excuse to relapse...I think being honest with yourself about that will help to keep you sober. You know exactly where you can end up if you get a case of the f---its! We'll be here.

Hey Dancing Girl, that was very brave. You are probably going to find out that all is well. Make a plan in your head about what you are going to do and stick with it when you get your results. Surprises aren't good for us alkies. Any excuse for a drink sounds like a good one at the time. You're doing wonderful.
I hope your test has good results. I know how it feels to wait. Or the worry that made me get the test in the first place. Mine was normal and I was so happy.
I really hope that you are not tempted to drink if everything is fine because the next time it might not be. Just a thought that might help you.

Best of luck DG if things dont come back as planned it is definitely not a reason to drink.
If we talked about how we were going to jump off of a cliff if we got a poor result on a sprained ankle people would lock us up Then again.. sometimes I think I need to be
Take Care

Thanks everyone. They said I would only hear if there's something wrong and would hear by the end of the week if that's the case. So far, nothing...but it was just yesterday. I'm so worried that something is wrong and they'll forget to call! lol sigh

Dancing Girl,
We are here for you!
I'm glad that you went and got it checked out.
In fact, after reading this thread, you have inspired me to make an appointment with a doctor and get my liver checked out. I'm scared about it too.
No matter what, you have us here!!
Nothing is worth drinking over so stay the course regardless of what happens.

Still no word from the doctor...I guess that's a good thing, as he said they'd only call if there was a problem. My goodness, I hate waiting, though! I almost wish they DID call, just so the waiting would be over...but then there'd be something wrong with me. Besides the obvious, that is! lol
You can call and ask to see the results yourself good or bad news. I picked mine up at the lab. You might try the lab where it was sent. I have records of every test I have done. It is your right to have them.
