My AB, Just for Today...

Just for today, my addict/alcoholic brother has settled up his court debts, found a great job in a fresh new town, gotten himself an apartment, moved his things out of our mom's house, and is excited about life again. He has been clean and sober for months now, so he says. And he's happy to have a second chance to start over, a thousand miles from his old influences and hoping to do it right this time.

Just for today, I'm so happy I could cry. Tomorrow may dawn on a different reality, but I'm satisfied to enjoy these moments where the future looks brighter, alcohol looks less enticing, and he's taking responsibility for his own choices. Grateful to my HP for allowing me this time. I like to think it's a reward, of sorts, for all of our loving detachment while he was stumbling around trying to find his way.

Tomorrow is tomorrow -- today is a GOOD day.

Very happy for you and for your brother. It's a wonderful feeeling to watch someone find his/her way and see the pride in accomplishing the things *I* used to try to control!
Your recovery as always is a shining star.

Thanks, everybody. I sent him a little housewarming gift this weekend, wished him well, told him I loved him, and now will leave him in the capable hands of his HP. I hope he's able to maintain this happiness...it's what we all deserve out of life.
