Wedding on Saturday Planning, planning, planning

This isn't what you think! I'm not in a wedding, having a wedding. I'm going to a wedding for my wife's cousin. Big party, lots of drinking, I know a shot of tequila will be coming my way. I'm planning on the moment with, "I'm dieting.", "I'm driving", "Doctors orders." I'm telling you this not because I'm worried of caving, but that again, planning is so important in the process of recovery. You can't always put yourself out of harms way, so when you do have to go into the lion's den, you need to be prepared with a sword and shield to protect yourself. Don't just go there and "Wing it." Even more important than that is the constant reminder of what it feels like to wake up with a clear head and no hangover on a Sunday Morning! In fact, I just realized this importance of this so I'm bringing a little coin to put in my pocket that symbolizes all of these things. NO DRINKING = CLEAR HEAD AND NO HANGOVER BABY! That is reward enough for me. In addition(I hope some of you can appreciate this), I'm gonna bribe my wife to do the n@#$@#sty later than night if I don't drink! Talk about setting myself up to win.

Yeah, I always like to arm myself with a set of easy responses to turn down drink offers. Beats worrying yourself to death.

That is hilarious.

Yep, I've a wedding in October to go to, same thoughts fears as yourself.

As an aside, how much does it cost to bribe your wife ?

Want to check I'm not being overcharged over here !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes.....parties .. weddings ... social and business events
sometimes are part of our lives....

Here are some tips that have worked for me
and I have left sober each time.

Go late ...leave early
Take your own car.

Ask a sober friend to go with you.
Take sober peoples phone numbers to call if you get antsy.

Turn your wine glass upside down at dinner
..denoting to the server you don't plan to drink
When toasts are made raise a glass of water

Get your own beverage from the bar. then
carry around a glass with something non alcoholic
(Club soda and Lime ..Coke with a cherry...Virgin Mary)

When asked "want a drink"?
you then say..."No thanks I have one"

When you leave your beverage ...smell before drinking.
It's easy to mix up the glasses.

Dance often and enjoy!

Best wishes with the wedding Hilltopper, sounds like you have it under control.
I had one last week and drank mainly water, a few diet cokes and a couple of Red Bulls with ice at the end of the night as I felt I deserved them. You can explain as much as you like or as little as you like and many won't even know whether you are drinking or not.

Fizzy,

I have two small kids in the house. Bribery is mandatory right? It makes me think. I believe I'm seeing a change in my temper, patience, understanding, etc. That part of my life in my prediction hopefully will improve! Does anybody else have some enlightening stories about that? I'd love to know.
