New here too
Not sober yet either just got here today. I've had years of sobriety before, more than once but always seem to drift back into it. Then it gets worse, then kick it mostly for a bit then rinse and repeat. Always tried to go it alone going back decades. Glad to find this community (thanks wife!). But tme to stop the madness. A bit scary but helps I think to read all the personal accounts. Never could bring myself to go to a meeting but this I think may work for me. Thanks all for the warm reception

welcome from another newbie
Welcome!! Only been here about three days myself but already feeling somewhat inspired. I can't bring myself to go to meetings either so I'm hoping this will work for me as well. All I know is I've never felt so welcomed anywhere before and that includes the church I grew up in. Looking forward to staying with SR and laughing and crying with everyone. We're in a great place! Glad I'm not the only newbie.

Glad you made it today. I also did the revolving door of sobriety, hopefully this will be the last attempt. There is a great deal of support and advice on this site.
I hope you can stay sober today. At least "just don't drink now"
Hope to hear of your progress! LOL

Welcome, and welcome to SR. You mentioned that you enjoyed the warm welcome / support you have witnessed on this site, and it's truly a blessing to find this site. I can tell you from experience, that I was the same as you as far as trying to do it on my own. It simply did not work. I can also relate to the fear of going to AA. Unfortunatley 3 years ago I was court ordered to attend AA after a DUI. I drove around the block several times before I got the guts to go in. What I found was similar to the welcome you found here. While I still relapsed for over two years after I attended the AA meetings, I went back this time and was welcomed again. AA has kept me sober for 36 days now, which is the longest stretch of sobriety I have had in 26 years. Basically what I am trying to say is that while probably possible - it is very dificult to go it alone. If you truly want to stay sober, I suggest overcoming your fears, and give AA a try. I think you may be surprised. After all, what do you have to lose? Your sobriety?
Glad to have you here!

Thanks folks Good so far...usual first night. Funny was just sitting here chuckling at myself...I use a trackball mouse and getting that little cursor over those tiny clicky numbers is humorous to watch
After reading through so many posts of others experiences I think I'm lucky I didn't get into the quantities so many did...still enough for addiction though.
And thanks Deezal, "just don't drink now" ....let your procrastination work for you

I can't do never ever again, consecutive days. Just wanna be sober more days than the "other".

Welcome
Hi Skyburst, Kevynne, and roger2,
I'm also new and having a real difficult time quitting (pot) and can't get to a meeting because I'm paralyzed with fear. Just keep coming here and reading and posting. I know that spending time here on SR is bringing me closer each day.
I wish you all the best in your journies of recovery and will see ya around the boards.
:ghug
