Sober 6 days
I've been sober 6 days now. I've tried to quit before, but this time, I think it's meant to be. Hopefully, hanging around here can help. Any tips or advice is much appreciated.
Hi Thomassober! Congrats! I'm on day 8 (yea!) and feel the same, this time "it's meant to be."
I have only had one or two real desires for alcohol since the third day. I wasn't expecting all the mental/physical oddities - memory trouble, general anxiety, trouble sleeping, headaches - bad headaches, sort of manic mood swings, trouble concentrating off and on. I'm really happy that the "not drinking" part has been relatively easy this time, but can't wait until my mental/physical self gets somewhat on an even keel.
I've been exercising - cycling, Nordic Track, and weights. Also have been drinking lots of water. Sparkling water in the evenings many nights (when I used to drink beer). I'm reading three or four books. I took up a stitchery project (new for me) but you could take up some other new activity. Oh, and I read over posts on SR in the morning, througout the day, and before I hit the hay. It's really comforting to me and encouraging. Some amazing people on here!
I'm pulling for you!

Welcome to SR Thomas! I am so thankful I found this site. As far as advice, I would say take it one day at a time, and keep coming back here. If you have a problem, post it here and try to get some advice prior to drinking. We are all new to recovery, and in it together.
How are you doing physically and mentally? The first week can be tough. Great job on 6 days!

I'd like to welcome all three of you to SR, glad you're here, this site is an excellent addition to my program of recovery.
The only tips and advice I can suggest is to have a plan for your recovery each and every day, and stay focused on it. AA is what worked for me but there are other options, you'll learn more as you continue to read, post, and share on these forums.

Nice job Thomas. I too am on day 6 and also have attended a meeting each day. Shooting for the 90 in 90 plan this time. I've went to meetings on and off for the last 2 plus years and really didn't put much into it. Now that I'm actually working it for real and not just attending (decisions are easy to make but it's the ACTION you take that matters so I have been told) I am starting to feel like this time is for real. I was feeling bad last night with the whole "whoa is me" pity party (wife left this time) but came here to SR and read posts for a couple of hours. It helped me to read about other experiences and the support I recieved. But for me and my soberiety, attending meetings and working the steps is what is working best for me. I WANT THE 12 PROMISES TO COME TRUE FOR ME! And working the steps is what it is going to take.
Keep coming back and let us know how it's going!

The best advice I've gotten so far is "one day at a time", or, if a whole day's too much, take things as they come to you, one minute or hour at a time. It's too hard to think about staying sober for the rest of your life, but a day at a time, just for today, now I can manage that!

Now you're in week 2. Week 2 went really good for me and I bet it will for you also. I just felt a lot better. Loved waking up in the mornings and sleep comes back to you without all the nightmares (if you got those. Don't know). Anyway, just wanted to say, GOOD JOB.

Day 11 is coming to a close for me too Thomas! Haven't been on SR for a couple of days (wife came back and is just as excited about my sobriety as I am) but am attending AA and am ready to select a sponser to work step 4. Keep it up! ^5
