Made it through my weekend!
Made it through my weekend!
Thanks to you all for your advice, I made it through my big family weekend / Wife's grandmothers 100th B-day.
If you read my post last week, my weekend consisted of lot of booze and partying until the wee hours of the morning.
I took your suggestions, went to bed early with the kids, spent time with the 100 year old B-day girl. I even played 12 holes of golf on a course that had sand greens!
Much to my suprise, I actually had support, There wasn't really any peer pressure, there were some good comments "Good for you "Heavy"" etc. There was also some questioning, "Was it starting to be a problem?" I think I just might be leading the way for some others..
One funny observation, I sat back kind of watching how much people were drinking, I knew my father-in-law had too much of his home-made wine when he tried a flip off of the diving board, landed flat on his back (SLAP!) then got out of the pool and said, "Don't worry, I have lumbar support in my new car"
Hope you all had great weekends too!

That's wonderful, Heavy. Even though we're advised to stay away from where liquor's being served, it just wasn't feasible for me to do that. Being around it has helped strengthen my resolve. (I realize that's not for everyone! If I ever feel my sobriety threatened, I'll steer clear of it.) I was only resentful a little in the beginning. Each time I get through an event like you just did, I'm much stronger & more encouraged to keep going.
Heavy - I am glad you had a good weekend. You will always remember and cherish those times spent with your kids and your 100 year old Grandma in law - thats so awesome.
Ther are really still such a thing as sand greens? I think I will stick to the sod type. Sounds like fun though.

Good for you Heavy!! THat took a lot of will power and determination. But you did it right!! I'm not around drunk people too much as most of my friends don't drink or have a problem with it, but the times I've been sober and watched other people getting sh!t faced I've always been very glad I wasn't one of them... Of course my living in a wine bottle for the last 15 months or so meant that I WAS one of the obnoxious drunks. Just glad I stayed home most of the time by myself.
