My addict relative is out of her drug of choice ( vicodin) and she called my mom crying that she is trying to get checked into rehab but they don't have a bed until the end of the week. My mom has a bottle of vicodin and was asking me if she should give it to her. At first I told my mom not to be an enabler and tell her no and let it be my aunts problem. My mom asked that I call the rehab and confirm that they have no beds. The rehab reported they didn't until the weekend but one may have just opened up for midweek. Now I don't know what she should do.
Would you give her the pills to hold her over or not?

If you both are willing and done with her and wanting to set the example that you are....... then you will not give her the pills. When she comes out of rehab.... she will understand, most likely she won't now. Stand firm.

If you give her the pills she may go off and running for a month straight, especially if she can score some more pills from others. Don't give in, the withdrawals will be painful for her but it is very unlikely to die from them like you can from alcohol withdrawals.

Does your aunt have insurance and is there a detox facility nearby? If you don't know the answer to the last question you might try calling your local ER.

I agree...No pills...I also think that an er or detox will take her if she goes into withdrawals.
