Drink of the day - non-alcoholic of course
Drink of the day - non-alcoholic of course
I realise a thread of recipes is a bit silly on SR but I miss the rituals associated with drinking alcohol so I am trying to create new, healthy drinking rituals.
Zesty Ginger Drink
Grate approx 1 sq inch if fresh ginger into jug
add zest and juice of one lime
add tablespoon or so of honey
add about a cup of boiling water and leave for a while
strain
This makes a concentrate/cordial
Chill and add as much as you want to soda/sparkling water or add to hot water.
Note that as well as tasting yummy, this is also good for you as ginger does great things for digestion.

Now I am feeling very pretentious with my drink recipe. But then I always was a classy drinker (but sadly not a classy drunk!)
Ananda, we have ad campaign here re kids obesity which is just like your recipe. (Kid complains no drink in fridge and Mum points them to tap)

Great thread! I've been trying to find the recipe for this awesome drink I had on vacation a couple of months ago - I think it was called a marionberry spritzer, and it had real berries in it along with some sort of syrup and soda water that made it taste very creamy. YUM! If I find it I'll post it here.

Oh, my! "Someone" is either very bored, or has a lot of spare time on their hands.
Here, at the nursing home, we are regularly offered either cranberry juice or apple juice...no frills. 99% of the residents have dementia and don't know or care what they're drinking...the rest of us just "go with the flow" (that's a sort of inside joke, since there is also a great demand and supply of diapers here).
Decaf takes some getting used to...and this alcoholic is still rebelling. The most popular place in the facility is the Activities Room where they actually serve real coffee.
So, enjoy your fancy-shmancy non-alcoholic drinks, and think of us old folks. BTW...my 81 year old roommate enjoys the occasional bottle of O'Doul's supplied by her family. The non-alcoholic beer for non-alcoholics is, of course, off-limits for me.

Love this thread pups!
Favorite for me was Bengal Spice (Celestial Seasonings). It had the right blend of spice and sweet to help w/ cravings. Ginger definitely helps w/ digestion, a good one for peeps trying to get back to balance.

Homemade Ginger Ale
3 cups club soda
1/2 cup grated fresh ginger
2-4 T sweetener (I use honey)
Mix all ingredients in a jar and store overnight in fridge
Strain ginger. This is a very "spicy" ginger ale and is really refreshing in the dog days of summer with a lime garnish.
I like this thread pupmom, as I myself enjoy a good mocktail. I find at parties it helps discourage personal questions if I have a beverage in hand.
I really like a good ol' Shirley Temple as well. Purchased grenedine syrup for that specific purpose

I love this idea of Drinks for the day. I've been drinking nothing but bottled water since sobriety...been staying away from sugar and caffiene till I can get my anxiety under control....anyhoo, I'm up for a change and it could help my sweets craving Thank you!
