Need Advice on Finding Medical Help

Hi all, I'm a 34 year old guy that has finally made my mind up to quit drinking. I have been drinking daily for about 2-3 years now, and know that when I do quit, it should be medically supervised. I am having pains consistent w/ the symptoms of pancreatitis, and definitely expect to have health issues. My question is, how/where do you look to find a doctor/hospital that specializes in this? I want to plan this ahead of time, so that I can inform my employer prior as I expect I will not be able to work for at least a few days. I don't want to just run to the ER, get admitted, and have to call my employer saying I won't be at work today. I know that I need to be medically supervised so I don't think just a "rehab" facility will be sufficient, definitely needs to be a medical facility.

Hi and Welcome,

I'm not sure you will have as much control over your medical situation as you would like to have. But, I am very glad you are seeking medical help.

I imagine your family dr would be the best bet to refer you to a specialist and to suggest which hospital might be best, though that might be up to the specialist.

Wdstock - you remind me so much of myself.

I was more concerned about my job than my health too.

Be sure you have your priorities straight. Maybe re-evaluate?

Woodstock-I agree with Anna about talking to your family Dr. and taking it from there!

As for the job-do you have any time off? Maybe sit down with your employer and say
that you need to take time off due to health issues that you do not want to discuss-Just a thought....

Try not to worry about the job-I agree your health is more important!

Assuming you have 2 days off from work ....
take another 3.....giving yourself time to de tox.

If you call Ridgeview in Marrietta
you might find help there.

You can also attend some AA meetings
and ask members what they did.

Here is the number for AA Atlanta
404-525-3178 they may have de tox facilities info.

....Welcome!
