3rd sobriety attempt
This is officially the 3rd time I have tried to stop drinking. I went to treatment 3 years ago for alcohol and cocaine addiction. I stayed sober for 7 months, and I have been drinking off and on since, with the occasional drug slip. My drinking has pretty much gotten out of control again, I don't drink every day, but at least 3 days a week, or whenever I can get away with it. After last nights ordeal, I have been told by my girlfriend that I either quit drinking or hit the bricks. Since I drank when I woke up this morning, I guess tomorrow will be my first sober day. I tried AA, and just don't care for it. I really don't know how I will get this done, but it really has to stop.

"I tried AA, and just don't care for it."
A friend of mine told me he hates AA and all of the people in it.
He desperately wants to drink, but the AA program has given him soooo many tools to use to remain sober that it has taken all of the fun out of drinking. So he hates the AA program, and he hates everyone in it.
I told him to be sure and keep coming back, he said he would, because his intention is to quit drinking no matter his likes or dislikes.
(I don't care for hospitals... but if they make me better, then so be it.)
Best wishes in whatever you choose.

Hi Matt,
Welcome. As you have learned, quitting booze or drugs on willpower alone is very difficult, and makes for a lot of misery - this has been my experience.
There are a lot of recovery options available - I hope you find one that fits, and become willing to do whatever it takes.
Sobriety rocks!

I was strange. It was a struggle, seemed like all my time and energy was put into avoiding alcohol. Of course, there wasn't any times where I ended up in handcuffs, no arguments, and I actually had spending money. I was happier then, but, considering the life I was living before, how could I not be.
