Goodbye my old friend!
My old friend
I remember back just before we first met,
I had heard so many great things about you.
Though up until the time we were introduced,
I was sure that I could live without you.
Embracing you I welcomed you onto my lips,
From which point you became my best friend.
Contrary to my belief I was the one consumed,
And onto you I would come to depend.
My family and friends unhappy with our relation,
You forced me to push them away.
With my focus on you I had not noticed,
The number of them that dwindled by the day.
Broken down I sat there with you all alone,
Wondering what it was that went wrong.
Not a melody left in tune with my life,
And no harmony to encourage its song.
Pondering the thought that we had never met,
I began thinking what it is I would be.
Overshadowed with regret it was I who released you,
From the very bottle imprisoning me.
Finding strength in the truth my will pushes back,
Against your once overwhelming weight.
Using all of its power and my determination,
I will again control my own fate.
The feeling of doubt still tries to creep in,
Saying things just wont be the same.
I'm on a mission now one to repay myself,
So myself I will begin to reclaim.
To my family and friends I have apologized since,
With the help from the Lord up above.
Come to find out it wasn't you that they hated,
As much as it was me that they loved.
Now lifes colors are starting to brighten,
With society I begin to blend.
There's only one more important thing left to say,
And that's this is goodbye my old friend.

As much as it was me that they loved.
That part right there just made me break down and cry.
Thank you for this post and welcome.
