Celebrating Sober
Celebrating Sober
Hi guys,
This is a big week for me and my husband. He just had a Birthday a couple of days ago. Today is our Wedding anniversary and next week is my birthday.
Last year with all these things to celebrate was a big party week for us. We drank a lot of booze, and smoked a lot of pot. Luckily i didn't get into other drugs. I most likely would of been addicted to them too if I had an opportunity to try them.
Now I'm sober and life is so much better. I'm sticking close to my AA friends this week and tonight is a AA dance that we're going to. I'm looking forward to that. It's so neat that it's on this day for our anniversary so we have somewhere safe and sober to go to celebrate.
Next week on my Birthday my sponsor is taking me out for breakfast and a meeting and then we're going to go over my step work. So that's a great day for that too so i won't be at home whining to myself that it's my birthday and i can't drink any more.
I just wanted to share this with everyone to say it is possible to get sober and stay sober and that you can still celebrate occasions with out booze and drugs.

Good for you Barb - I'm glad you have a plan in place to get you through the next week. and not just get you through, but to help you enjoy it.
you deserve it.....and you're right. we all need to hear motivational stories like that. (especially us with way less time in). It really makes a difference.

Barb, you & I are both heading towards our 6th month. In the end of my drinking career, when holidays or special occasions came up I'd almost dread them, worrying about "how bad will I blow it this time?" & ridiculous thoughts like that. Not drinking never crossed my mind, of course. As these days come and go, they feel less strange each time - in the beginning, I confess it seemed like something was missing. Now I tell myself if something is missing, I need to change my life & find out what it is. I'm so happy for you, my friend. Enjoy your new freedom.
Hi guys, not going to be on here long. Just got back from the AA dance and we had a great time. It was a nice turn out. My arm is screwed up now from the dancing and all the fans they had blowing in there, which doesn't surprise me. But it was worth it.
Hopefully i can make it to my meeting tomorrow night. I'm in a lot of pain tonight. I'll worry about that tomorrow when it comes.
Thank you everyone for all your posts.
