Relapse Symptoms?

For those of you who have been addicted to alcohol, gotten sober and then had a relapse, what were you post drinking symptoms like?

I have been drinking for years and recently started to experience mild shaking of the hands and head. That is why I am here and now fighting for a successful day two.

In the event I fall off this wagon in a couple of weeks, months, years, etc., will I experience the same symptoms as before? Or are the symptoms a cuumulative effect of recent drinking.

Just wanting to know what is ahead.

not sure what you're asking...a certain amount of shaking is fairly common in withdrawal, but the best thing to do is consult your doctor Jwell

jwell - welcome ! Glad you're here.

Don't think about falling off the wagon, just don't drink today, one day at a time.

As far as withdrawal symptoms, I experienced cold sweats, shaking of the hands, felt like there were bugs crawling on my skin, high levels of anxiety and once I had an actual panic attack... As suggested, go see a doctor - that's what I did.

All the best, and please keep posting.

Irrational thoughts usually preceed a relapse.

Thoughts of: drinking, how much you deserve a drink, how you just can't go without a drink, how a drink would calm your nerves, how it would be okay just to smell a drink, reasons to go into a bar or place serving alcohol.

None of the thoughts make ANY sense, but they will often arise.

One good thing though - just prior to a relapse most people understand exactly what they are doing, and they know it is wrong.

Powerful disease.

Yes, do talk to your dr.

Try to focus on the positive and that you are sober today.
