Hi, new here...

Hello everyone, I'm new here and have been browsing around a bit. Seems to be a lot of supportive people on this board. I'd like to tell you all a bit about me. I'm a "functional" alcoholic who has come to the conclusion that it's time to stop. I have not hit "bottom" ( except the bottom of ALOT of bottles), but I want to quit before I do. I want my life back, the life I used to enjoy. I want my wife to respect me again, heck, I want to respect me again. I want to think about more than " I can't wait to get out of work for a drink ". It's time to stop, and I hope I can before it's too late.

Welcome,

You have found a great site with many supportive and wise people. I recognize a lot of me in what you said. Stick around, read and listen to what is being said. It's helped me a lot! I wish you well.

welcome to the forum, this place has been a godsend, with it i managed to acheive 60 + days sobriety- they were the best 60 days of my sad little life , unfortunately i made a date with some beers at the weekend but im back on track now and fighting for another 60 + days.
Good luck with what i believe to be the eternal quest for sobriety

Hey, welcome ! I too am a functional alcoholic.

Looking forward to your posts...

For us, if we keep drinking, things never get better, only worse.

Welcome! I totally understand, and I think a lot of us do, when you say you want your life back. And how much it sucks to always want to get out of work to have that drink! I'm still working on getting my life back. There are lots of people here with sober time that do have their lives back. Keep reading, and posting. This is a great place!!

Welcome! I recently made the decision to quit drinking for the exact same reasons you stated above. I am so lucky that I didn't hit any bottoms worse than I did. I know it was only a matter of time.

Good Luck!

Have you considered having an honest talk with your doctor
before abruptly quitting?
Withdrawing from alcohol is a medical issue
and can be dangerous. Be both safe and sober!

Welcome to our recovery community..

Wow itistimetostop, you are me, or I'm you, or some variation of the sort. I have a great job, fine house, 2 cars , and a little baby at home; yet like you, drinking was my hobby. After a 10 hour day, I'd come home, play with my baby, give him a bath, kiss my wife good night, walk down stairs, and fire back a 12 pack and pass out on the couch, spilling whatever I was holding at the time of my black-out. I, too, have never hit "rock bottom," but also don't want to, which I know I eventually will. The respect of my wife was lost a long time ago, and getting it back is a must, while it won't be easy.

Good luck, and keep me posted.
