How Do I Find a Sponsor?

I'm looking for tips on finding a sponsor, a GOOD sponsor.

I'm ready to take AA seriously and really work a solid program, but I have not had good luck finding a sponsor.

I had a sponsor during my first attempt at getting sober. I kind of picked him out of a hat. (edit)We were not a good match. This time through I'd really like to find a sponsor I can work well with.

Any input, advice, etc would be greatly appreciated

Read the sponsorship pamflet....think about it...be sure to discuss it and what sponsorship is with your potential new sponsor.

That's what I WISH I had done....but it worked out ok as we read and discussed it about 3 months after I got her as a sponsor.

Perhaps get a temporary sponsor immediately, and then observe others.

When you encounter someone with some clean time who carries the message well, ask them to be the 'permanent' sponsor.

I would suggest looking for one at a Big Book Study meeting if you have any in your area.

Ohhh..I was just gonna say that. Big book meetings or Step meetings are good places to find some solid sobriety.

You got some good advice. Listen to when folks share..see if they have what you want.

Keep us posted! Good luck!

Be careful in your selection, observe the person for a bit, and don't make the mistake I did--see my thread entitled "trouble" in the NA 12-step forum. But don't let my bad experiences stop you from seeking a sponsor, I'm still going to keep looking too.
