Cool This is the Day!

This is my first post here, I found this board months ago late at night as I could not sleep, woke with night sweets feeling like crap! I was going to quit drinking that day and as many of you know…you feel a little better, start drinking to get over the hangover and your right back on that horse….
Well it’s Monday…. Friday (Trigger Day) I started drinking & were did the weekend go? WOW this is Insane!

This Is The Day and the time is now…have to do it now!

Dave

Well, I guess you could also walk over to the Dirty Dog or any of the dozens of bars in the area, or you could go out for coffee or a meal after the meeting and share your story with other people in recovery. The NSFC is a great place to get started. Meetings are pretty large so you won't feel like you're "the new guy", but we like it when newcomers introduce themselves.

At least stop by and pick up a meeting schedule. The largest meetings are at 7:00 AM, noon, and 6:00 PM (that's my personal favorite), and there's also 11:00 PM meetings if you're a night owl. It's a diverse crowd, people of all ages, and I like to think we're a pretty friendly group.

Welcome!

Hi dave and welcome! Wow, I totally understand about triggers and good intentions. Its amazing how we can talk ourselves into anything when we want to drink. Addicts are the very best liars in the world (and we mostly lie to ourselves!) What we need to do is keep thinking beyond the first few drinks and think about how we will feel the next day! I'm with ya in this, its day one for me as well. My trigger is about 4 in the afternoon nearly everyday. Good luck, I hope we are both celebrating day 2 tomorrow!

It's a challenge, but it can be done. Just take it one minute, one hour, one day at a time. Little by little does the trick. All the best to you in the days ahead.:ghug

Well it's day 2 and last night was hard to deal with...the mental damage of the endless thoughts of having a drink will drian you! I fell asleep for a few hours and woke with the ugly sweats that make get up and dry off! Wow I guess the good news is I am alone at this point in my life and no one is there to witness this or have to deal with the nasty smelly night sweats! I did geta couple more hours sleep and feel ok at this point in the day....hope the sweats stop soon, I guess it shows how the booze is really just posion that is exiting your system in your sleep. Strange how much you can sweat when your just laying down not moving!

One minute at a time... can you do that? (Yes, you can.)

Soon the minutes turn to hours.

Don't look ahead, concentrate on right NOW.

Congrats on day 2 Dave! That's how we do it, 24 hours at a time. If I make it to bed tonight without picking up a drink, I get to wake up tomorrow and do it all over again.
