triggered

I have been out of work for over a year trying to get clean and sober and stay that way.
As many know I have had mixed success. I finally think I will get a job unfortunately it is back in a restaurant environment. They dont server alcohol and they recently fired someone I know from my past for coming in drunk. It is a physically demanding job and will keep me on my feet for 10 hours a day possibly more. Im just not sure if my body will take it. To top it off I may have to ride nearly an hour on my bicycle to get there every day.
I have a Dr appt tomorrow to check out some new ailments in my back, knee and kidneys. My AA friends say that I fear the Dr appt. They are right.
I also dont think my body is going to take it. The job will keep me away from meetings 4 days a week due to the long days.
Just trying to keep it in the moment and not worry. Im stuck in a bad neighborhood right now....my head.

Discuss the demands of the job with your Dr.
Hope your other fears are unfounded

Yes, as Dee said, definitely talk about those concerns with your dr.

It's good to see you and I can understand your fears.

All you can do is be honest with your doctor - about everything.

If it's meant to be, it will work out. I'm glad that you are reaching out and sharing your difficulties - that shows wisdom and courage.

Let us know what happens.

do not overlook your higher power. Share your concerns with your doctor, but also realize that you have a source of strength and power greater than yourself. Call on him.God bless you

first -

I remember you when you first came in here over a year ago.

You've come so far.

I work long hours as well.
Because of that, I cut my days,
so that I'm only working three days per week.

You may get to do something like that.
We can't know.

My advice -

let the universe ... unfold.
It seems to be trying to make something happen for you.
Let it.

I would also see what your Dr. has to say. If you have legitimate medical reasons for not being able to work a job that demanding, maybe you'll have to look into another field, or as Barb said, work shorter shifts.

In my groups I attend, a first job in Recovery is called a "get well job" If this job is going to be a potential risk to your Recovery, I would look into other options in the job market. I know jobs are hard to come by these days, but Recovery is more important than a job to me.

I hope you'll keep us updated on what the Dr. says. And I hope it's good news.

God Bless,
Judy

As others have said, talk with the doctor about your health and pains.

As far as the job goes, it's a job. You're a chef... a good one. At least they don't serve alcohol there. Keep at it, you need the work.

In time the transportation issues will work themselves out for the better I am sure.

This is all part of recovery / life Scot. It sucks sometimes, but it is.

The above stuck out for me on this, not to take away from others, they are all good.

I would add one thing, it may be a good idea to let your boss know about your present concerns and see if you do have problems with the long hours at first if he could cut back on them to start off with.

The reseraunt industry is a tough one though so that may not be possible, but you will never know unless you ask!

Thank you every one for your advise and support. I have thought about the shortening of the hours to start but would be a little worried but that is probably just my thinking and projecting. The bright side of things is that the knee and kidneys are feeling better this morning but Im still going to have them checked out.
I also called an AA friend who is 62 and had a heart attack just after we had lunch on friday and is out of the hospital as of yesterday. (geeze I didnt think I was that bad of company....lol) I had a long talk with him and asked his advise on several issues that have been bugging me lately and it really helped.
Have a good day everyone....I'll be back later.
Dang its nice out today !!!
