Alright folks so get this, while I was sitting here on my pity pot I actually thought of something from reading Severs post. And a long time ago this lady named Elisabeth Kubler-Ross came up with the Five Stages of Coping With Dying, which are as follows:

Denial
Anger
Bargaining
Depression
Acceptance

It dawned on me that these are also the stages of alcoholism and recovery, or at least as I have come to know it. First we deny we're sick, then we get mad at ourselves and everyone else for "judging" us and giving us a hard time, then we bargain, "well I will just have three drinks a night for six months" and then when we realize that won't work, we get really depressed and then, blessedly, at some point comes acceptance that we are alcoholics and have to end our relationship with liquor. I understand it's not rocket science what I've posted here but I never before related the stages of grief to alcoholism until now. Just food for thought. Sever if you do decide you're an alcoholic you might want to ask yourself what stage you see yourself at if you feel this applies to you.

Letting go of alcohol and the way we have lived for so many years is in it's own warped way loss so maybe we do go through a grieving process as we let go of our one time best friend, cure all and hero.
