I'm new - please have patience
My husband is the alcoholic. And my family is falling apart. My two girls are feeling the effects of my stress and his distance. He's functioning...but he *is* a heavy drinker ("It's only beer--I'm fine") OK, whatever. I'll be lurking for awhile, I don't open up and talk about my feeling well, but I feel like my head is going to explode and if you all can point me the right forums etc, I'd appreciate it. I thank you very very much.

Welcome to SR.
I will mimic the rest, the friends and family is a good resource. You can always read and post here as well. Lastly, try Al-Anon, that is a good way to meet others in your area in similar situations.
The only words of wisdom I have for today - Take it a day at a time and you will get through this.

I am that alcoholic husband. I try so hard and keep failing them. It is a miserable place to exist. I wish you and your family the best. Reading your posts makes me realize what my alcoholic ripple effect does to the ones that I love. I hope he realizes, at the very least, that he is an alcoholic.
My husband is a recoverying alcoholic. Al Anon is always a good place for me to open up in front of people who are going through what I am going through. As well, there are a lot of friendly people on Friends and Family Section on www.soberrecovery.com.
Here is a good article:

And I really like the book Getting Them Sober.
Getting Them Sober- Recovery Communications
It is important to focus on your own recovery, and let your husband focus on his recovery. Take care of yourself first.
