Gotsa bubble in my tummy..

Hi, been drinkin alone for quite a while as damage limitation (so i don't upset the able drinkers). Recently the top half of my abdominum (pardon the spelling) has swollen out considerably. I was sent for blood tests, urine, x-ray and prodding and they said they found liver enzymes in my blood but it was not enough to go any further into doing liver function tests. I walk away delighted and hold off drink for a day and start drinking again and it seems more swollen now. Just under my ribs and takes up the top half of my abdominum. I know its not a doctors forum but i just wonder has anyone had these effects before or know anyone who has because basically, doctors are overworked and i always feel rushed in and out.
P.S. I love the site, i could read here all day. Its a truly nice thing you are doing here.

Yes...I did have simlar symptoms
until I quit drinking.
I strongly suggest you quit before more damage is done.

Welcome to our recovery community.

Hi TK, Welcome to SR

You need to go back to your Doc and tell him how much you drink, be open and honest about it, then they can help you.

Are you trying to quit drinking?

I'd like to first welcome you to SR!

I would highly encourage you to find another doctor and get a second opinion. Alcoholism can do some horrible things to our bodies, our liver being a major victim of the physical assault we put our bodies through.

Yes, Dr.'s can be overworked but it is their job to take care of the patient, not see if they can break some record as to how many patients they "see" a day. Don't let your Dr. rush you. You aren't paying by the minute.

If you are having problems like you describe, please get to a doctor asap. I am not a Dr., but I do know that liver problems, if that's what this is, can be serious. Go back to your doc, tell him/her what you are experiencing and insist they do further testing. If they won't, find another Dr. Your health is nothing to mess with.

Keep reading and sharing. Glad your with us.

God Bless,
Judy

I was pretty honest about how much i was drinking. I said on average it is 4 days a week but i usually binge on those days that i can barely get out of bed the other days. It is normal to be constantly fatigued when drinking so much i hope.
Thank you for the welcome by the way, much appreciated.
I am trying to quit, i'm just bumbling about. Snail mode quitter

Hi and welcome,

yes I had symptoms like yours,

sometimes with excruciating pain requiring a trip to the hospital.

Since I've stopped drinking all symptoms have disappeared.

Thank you again, i was typing while you were typing. The doctors in Ireland just dont listen. I dont know what it is but it is the same with every one. The act like they are listening but they are running other stuff through their mind. You can see it by each response. Our health system is messed up for a decent economy. There is war about it. I could see how angry the nurses and doctors are in the A and E. I dont blame them but i dont wanna pop me clogs either coz they are under pressure. Gonna go back to my GP again and spell it out tomorrow. Drink is a curse either way

There is no doubt in my mind that you will quit drinking in the future. God willing, you'll be around to enjoy it.

AA is just around the corner. Been swerving that corner for a long time. Im past denial. Sometimes i tell myself. Your past denial, your not that badly off. That gives me reason to drink. Coz i know im an alcoholic, like knowing makes it alright. Ya just gotta get in the door

Thank you. That door is so so daunting. It really is. I will manage it. If im still drinking with this thing popping out below my ribs, its time for desperate measures. No offence to AA. Its just desperate measures in my own mind. And im not the bravest of cats when it comes to making big changes but ill grin and bear it, maybe. Had to put maybe.

Let's look at your situation realistically

What are you going to do about your drinking
if your GP tells you everthing is fine?

What are you going to do if your GP tells
you your liver is becoming non functional?

You and I both know the symptoms you have
are not a part of anything remotely healthy.

The next thing will be excruciating pain most likely.
I watched a house mate slowly go thru this
He had to wear my night gowns as his pants
no longer would fit. He had to drink every 4
hours to prevent DT's.
While Wayne was dying in an ambulance
I cleaned up his waste and blood.
He was 40 and it took 6 months for him to die.

I don't care if you go to AA or not.
I do care whenever alcoholics die needlessly.
I've lost 26 friends from active alcoholism
since I quit.

Please don't make your life miserable and short.

Just go to a couple of A.A meeting and decide whether it is for you or not, and listen for the similarities and not the differences and you only have to not pick up that first drink one day at a time Cheers thecritta
