From Alcohol to Sugar??!

Hello, Just a quick question.. My husband is newly sober from drinking (5 months) He just returned from Rehab.. He devours icecream, chocholate, anything sweet. Ive heard that this is common. Considering the sugar levels and hypoglycemia. I eat a balanced diet and I would not dream of taking these things away from him, Just curious if this is a phase or do many carry the sweet tooth to the grave?? of course much better than the years of drinking..Im so proud of my husband and just curious about nutrition..Thanks a million!!

Ava

I am a recovering alcoholic (nearly 3 months) who has always disliked sweets. I just don't eat them.

Soon after quitting, however, I began to crave them. Not to the degree of devouring them, but unusual for me.

This is not an opinion, just my experience.

Yes, i think this is normal. My exAboyfriend never liked sweets and when he became sober he craved icecream, candy, sugar energy drinks and stuff like that. I think that when you drink there is alot of sugar in beer and alcohol so when that's taken away you crave sugar. Same thing happened to my friend, she's over a year sober and has turned into a herseyholic!!!!!

Yep, as a recovering alcoholic, I still have cravings for sugar off and on.

We also keep several bowls filled with candy at our meetings just for that purpose
