OT: Food for thought
OT: Food for thought
A friend of mine passed away on April 28th--he was killed by a shark while surfing in Mexico. I am deeply saddened by his untimely death, but also very enlightened and inspired by the full life that he lead in the 25 years he was alive.
My husband and I went to his memorial last weekend, and we were amazed (but not surprised) by the number of people who were there (somewhere around 3 to 400). This young man touched so many lives with his magnetic personality, kind soul, and love for life. He will be missed deeply by the community of people who knew him. I miss him. But I think what's amazing about him is that he lived his life to the fullest, even up to the very end, when he died doing what he loved to do.
I left the memorial reminded of how very IMPORTANT it is to live your life to the fullest extent that you can, to not have regrets, and to live every day as if it is your last. We only have this present moment, and to dwell on the past or to hold on to resentments or anger just seems stupid and pointless--a waste of time that is precious.
So...I just wanted to post this here because I think sometimes we all get so bogged down in the problems of the As in our lives...and it is SO important to let go and to love the person beyond the disease, or to let go and love and live for ourselves.

I wanted to thank you for posting this, and also wanted to say that I think it is very 'on' topic. Living in the moment is so important in my recovery, and your post touched me deeply. I am so sorry for the tragic loss of your friend. :ghug2
How very sad that a beautiful life was cut short. Tragic. Living in the now. Today. It is so important. My father always said two things to me that stuck.
1. Life in tenuous at best.
and
2. Death is the last great adventure of living.
Strange way to look at things but for some reason his words bring me comfort.
I'm so sorry for the loss of your friend. For him.....I hope there is surfing in heaven.
gentle hugs

You are EXACTLY right and thank you for this post. It's easy to forget how quick a life can be taken. I'm so sorry to hear about your friends untimely death.
Like you, a year ago a close friend of mine (surfer/surf shop owner as well) unexpectedly died at 33 with 2 small children and a young wife (my close friend). There had to be like you said 3-400 at the wake and so on....Thanks for putting things back into perspective for me and so many of us, it's easy to get distracted.
hugs to you and your friends....

Thank you for sharing....I am so sorry for your loss and hope that you will find peace and comfort at this difficult time.
I lost my best friend 11 months ago..... she committed suicide....she left two beautiful small children and her lovely husband who is also a very close friend......it is still to this day quite devastating and life changed that day forever for all of us that knew her. It is not something that has been easy to live with. However I try and remember all the good times...of which there were many and she will be in my heart forever :0)
Thank you for reminding us to live life to the fullest each and every day.
