What is Self-esteem?
Self-esteem is your real feelings
about yourself.You express
your self-esteem by the way
you treat yourself, how well
you understand yourself, and
how you accept your feelings.
People with high self-esteem
have good feelings about
themselves. They value their
own opinions and ideas. Their
behavior and positive value they
have in themselves.
People with low self-esteem
put little value in their own
opinions and ideas. This
negative feeling often shows
up in how they look and how
they behave.
It is very hard for chemically
addicted people to maintain a
feeling of high self-esteem. The
disease has caused them to
behave in a manner that goes
against their values. Many
addicted people feel ashamed-
they are constantly saying to
themselves, "I am bad," or "I
am dumb," or " ugly" or
"unlovable."
For some addicted people low
self-esteem may have begun
long before they took their first
drink or first drug. Bad feelings
may have come from bad
childhoods.

Self...me, myself, I
Esteem...to lift up, praise, think well of.
Though I am but a worm, a lowly human on this planet.
I am a king among men in my own kingdom.
I have risen out of the ashes and found a new life.
By the hand of God that lifted me up out of the pit and placed my feet on solid ground, I am now able to do anything. With the Lord on my side, I am strong. By His strength that He fills me with, I can stay on this sober path and live a life filled with blessings.
