Hi Leona,

We can offer support for you, but I believe your husband will have to seek help for himself.

You need to take care of yourself and we can offer lots of support.

Take a look around and read and post.

Leona, I'm sorry you are in pain. I'm sorry your husband has an addiction problem.

I'm a recoverying alcoholic (in my first 60 days) and my husband has suffered tremendously. He's still suffering, I know, even though I am in recovery.

He's going to Al-anon and also therapy. Hopefully our marriage will survive. I'm not sure there's anything I can do to help you. But I hope your husband recovers.

Hello Leona and welcome to SR

Things he can do...

Look for alternate ways of dealing with pain if he still has it.
Stop taking the pills all together if he has the inner strength to do that.
If he needs help stopping... NA meetings and or a rehab are a great place to gather support and help from.
It can be done. It won't be easy but with the help and support of others, it can be done easier.

Welcome to SR - sorry about the situation that brought you here. Has he ever admitted to or sought help for his problem?

It sounds to me (tentatively) like it might not hurt to suggest he see a doctor asap. You can't drag him there unwillingly - that would do no good. But if he's crying in pain in bed, suggesting a dr visit might give him some options once he gets there....
