Thumbs down Couldn't get to sleep last night

No matter how much I tried, now I'm really tired today. Was going to post about it in the middle of the night but decided to try to get to sleep again.

Ah well, I suppose that means I'll definitely sleep tonight then.

Don't know if that's linked to not drinking or not, I've been sober for a while now and I've not encountered this that much before so maybe just one of those things.

I'll probably fall asleep at 5 o'clock this afternoon and wake up at midnight.

I'll try to stay awake till around 9pm or 10pm, then I should be almost guaranteed to sleep through.

RK I hope it is just one of them those thingies too!

Count sheep tonight-

I have had a lot of trouble sleeping as of late and I know sometimes that is when I have a lot going on in the brain (more than normal that is)

The drinking part I cannot help with ...

I actually was just given this great waterfall spa thingie-it trickles water and has this amazing light-It is to calm and soothe. So far it has been working pretty well-

I know what you mean. Usually if I go to bed with an old Star Trek tape in the vcr I'm asleep within minutes. Lately can't sleep, should say, can't GET to sleep, then oversleep... Wishing us both rest

I have had insomnia for most of my adult life, but RK, I suspect this is just a blip for you and you will get back to regular sleeping patterns soon.

That said, I would like to strangle every single person who says no one ever died from lack of sleep. LOL. It does cause problems.

There was an excellent show on TV last week on Dateline and research shows that people may very well die with lack of sleep. It's proven that people begin to lose their sanity after 4 or 5 days without sleep. Research also shows that chronic insomnia is as bad for you, as not eating well or never exercising. Your body never has a chance to regroup. Dateline showed a link between chronic insomnia and diabetes and that insomnia should now become a marker for diabetes along with being overweight, etc.

Dateline also talked about the link between car accidents and other accidents and lack of sleep. It's not an issue to be minimalized.

Me too!

Prolonged insomnia is just horrible, not good if you have any mental issues (anxiety etc) either.

Not sleeping is difficult. Very frustrating. If I can't sleep I do not stay in bed awake more than 30 minutes. I hate the feeling of I HAVE TO HURRY UP AND GO TO SLEEP. It causes way to much anxiety.

So if I can't sleep I try not to stress and know that I will get a good nights sleep soon.

Hope that helps and hope you sleep well tonight!

I have been having sleeping issues for about a month now, I sleep and feel rested when I wake up, but start really dragging about midday, I have a feeling that I need to get back into working out again, I had a lot more energy when I was working out and seemed to have slept better as well to.

Do you work out?

Who knows it may be just one of those things.

Thanks for replying everybody, well here I am again can't sleep.

Going to make a cup of tea I think, not one with caffeine in it (I don't take caffeine) - I've got some mint teabags somewhere think I'll have some of that and see if I can settle down a bit.

When I couldn't sleep a friend asked what I did at those times, I said I got up fiddled around maybe read a little then try and sleep again, he said why not just get up and get on with things and then sleep when you can. I did this and after a while it worked I gradually started to sleep and at teh right times as well.

Might try that Kev, sounds like a good plan.

One thing I'm not going to do is worry about it as that will only keep me awake.

One of my best sleep-aids are watching DVD's with the Director's Commentary on.

For some reason 2 hours of monotonous voice usually helps in putting me to sleep.

I tried that last night, decided I would watch all the Star Wars films and nodded off about half way through Attack of the Clones - woke up again at the credits and still couldn't sleep.

Think I'm going to chill out for a bit maybe, if I keep thinking about it I'll probably never get to sleep - thing is I feel tired until I lie down then I can't settle.
