Thanks!
Thanks!
Hi everyone! I just wanted to say thank you so much for your lovely welcome and support! Yesterday I didn't drink for a second day in a row. It was difficult - I was really irritable, restless, couldn't sleep - even shivering! The only thing that kept me going was that I wanted to post a message to you today. Thank you for being such wonderful friends.
I admitted to myself early last year that I am an alcoholic, and I've been trying to stop drinking on my own for over a year. I only ever succeeded for the odd day here and there, and even that was a huge effort. It's very comforting to know that I'm not alone in trying to deal with this.
On the few days when I didn't drink, I had a tiny glimpse of how wonderful life could be, if I only I could stop drinking. But that new life felt so distant, so far away from what I have become, it's as if it was a different world on the other side of the rainbow. But I guess a 1000 mile journey starts with the first little steps, and I really want to try. Thanks for helping me! I hope that in time I might be able to help others too!
All best wishes
PB

Support is vital for most of us to recover, for folks like me it takes face to face support, one of the reasons AA worked for me, hearing other alcoholics share how they got and stayed sober, talking with them, becoming friends with them, helping other alcoholics get and stay sober is what helps me more then anything to stay happily sober.

I would agree with the above posts. There is no way in hell I would have made it this far (140 days today!) without the support of other people like me. Meetings help a great deal, but the shear act of *being* around other people who are addicted really does help.
I never thought I would make it past my second day, or third, or fourth. And God willing my 141st. But as hokey as all the 12 Step stuff sounded to me in the beginning, it really does work.
Hang tough.

Good Job and Don't be afraid to seek help to quit drinking! Everyone's path to sobriety is different - do not be afraid of a few bumps in the road.
I will quit preaching and leave with this, my sponsor helped me to realize that I could not just admit I was alcoholic, I had to accept it.
Good luck and try to just stay sober for today, tomorrow is not here yet.
