Happy Birthday to Me!
Yesterday I threw a birthday party for myself in celebration of my 48th birthday. I invited all my favorite people and threw together a fabulous meal. I cooked the main dish and asked my family members to bring the apetizers, side dishes, and desserts (six different kinds to choose from--woo yoo!).
It was my second annual birthday bash. I highly recommend them. There's nothing better than spending the day with the people I love most, enjoying the foods I love most, and creating a day that's just perfect for me. My little neice showed up in her Sunday best (tiara and all), and even passed the crown over to me so I could be queen for the day when I blew out the birthday candles.
I've learned that the best way to get my needs met is give freely to myself and to ask for what I need.

Happy birthday to you! What a great way to celebrate!
I did something similar for my birthday back in December. I took my sons, a dear friend and her son out to a Japanese steak house for dinner. We had a great evening. My sons thought it odd that I took everyone out fo rmy birthday but I told them it made me happy and that's what counted.

Last year, it felt a little odd throwing a birthday party for myself. But I had such a great time and really enjoyed a day where I could surround myself with the people I loved that I decided to make it an annual event.
It's a far cry from my 45th birthday. That's the day that I hit my bottom and ended my relationship, drove my boyfriend to a local motel, wished him well, and drove away. It was an emotional birthday but it ended up being the best present I ever gave myself. It's hard to believe that three years have gone by since that day. I'm so grateful that I took my life back and began to live the life I wanted to live. If I hadn't, I'd still be wallowing in misery today.
These days, I have much to be thankful for and much to celebrate. I would not be where I am today without the help of each and every one of you.

Just wanted to pop in and say thanks again. Have to run because the folks at work threw together a pot luck for my birthday and the party's about to get started. How wonderful is that? I'm a lucky gal!
