He went.....
He went.....
Today was the day my A son was suppose to go in for intensive outpatient treatment (IOT). Over the last week or so he's had lots of time to think about it. He has told me all of the reasons that he didn't need IOT and how it was going to be very inconvenient. I just kept telling him that it was his decision to make....not mine. It sounded like he was trying to talk himself out of it. I didn't try to convince him one way or the other. I listened but offered no advice. I must have said "That's your choice" 3,000 times though!
He called me from the treatment center this morning and said that he has committed to treatment. He knows that he needs to stay sober and he needs help. He came to the decision on his own.
I am praying that this is a new beginning for him.

That's so great, Kindeyes! He didn't have you telling him what the right decision was, didn't have you to blame for why or why not, and made a great decision all by himself. That must have been tough to keep your mouth shut this past week! I really admire your approach (hands off) and your listening skills! I am going to keep those in mind here, especially now with this great example of how "hands-off" really can work!
Kindeyes, I am very glad for the respite this offers you and hopeful for your son....good job on the 'hands off', amazing how that can create the space that allows things to shift just 'enough' sometimes.....
