any suggestions of books for family members?

I'm not so much referring to books about the addict's perspective but books more for family members and how they learned to cope...

I know of some...

"Addict in the Family" by Beverly Conyers

The book by Ruth Bell Graham about loving prodigals

Anyone else out there read any good ones???

Early on I read a book called "Marriage on the Rocks." In it, the author talks about a study done, I believe by Rutgers University. There were thousands of books about addiction written and I believe they found 87 of them focused on the affected family. Most of those were Al-Anon literature.

I have found the Al-Anon literature very helpful. It can be ordered on line, even if you decide to not attend meetings.

Marriage on the Rocks is great. Actually, if you PM me your address, I can send it to you. I have no intention of needing it again :-)

What do you mean by family? I think there are books out there for every role - parent, child, spuse, etc. Can you be clearer?

There are many and seems like there are more every day!

My favorite "recovery" books for f/f would still be: "Under the Influence" and the "Getting Them Sober" books. I think most of the Hazelden published books seem good, too. And M. Beatty.

I've found many (in fact the books mentioned above!) great books at resale stores like Goodwill, etc. and library sales. They usually have the Big Book,Alanon,etc.,too...if you check from time to time.

i'm coming from the perspective of parent of a young adult male....

I forgot about the Getting Them Sober books - I read those when dealing wi addicted husband (now ex) many, many years ago.

Does Under the Influence address the family's perspective???

TIA

There's a book coming out at the end of the month called Beautiful Boy, about a father's perspective on his son's meth addiction. The son also wrote a book called Tweak, which is available now.

I haven't read either (yet) so I can't recommend, but you could check out the reader reviews on Amazon for Tweak.
