Feels good to be sober, but is hard to stay sober

I havent been sober for very long about 2 months. One thing that I do like is when I wake up in the morning I do feel good both mentally and physically. I am a little stressed out because I am entering the deferred dui process, and have a lot at stake. My biggest concerns are about getting the paper work in right now, and staying sober.

just wanted to wish everyone luck, and will power

I wish you well with your DUI process.

Yes, it feels good to get sober and at first it is hard to stay that way. My experience has been that it does get easier. Today, I don't think about drinking. What I work on today is the behaviors that contributed to my drinking.

Welcome to SR!

Hi sidarnold, welcome!

I'm going through a similar process with my DUI. It's helping me to stay sober. Knowing that if I go out and get drunk and get into any kind of trouble (which with a drunk me, that's very possible), I'll lose the chance at getting into the first-time offender program, which would mean some jail time. And that really scares me.

Good luck with your case, and stay strong!

Hi Sidarnold,

Staying focused is the best idea. Just do what you can do and then try to let go of the pressures and stresses.

Just wondering...are you involved in any support group, such as AA, to reinforce your commitment to staying sober? It wouldn't hurt you to make some meetings, and might even help in your DUI process. Judges like to know alcoholics are making positive efforts, and not relying on luck and willpower.

Please consider it as a viable option.

I mentioned that I've started going to AA meeting with my lawyer when I met with him Wed., and he agrees with you.

Good for you, SF69. I do hope you will be glad you took the AA route...I did 28 years ago, and have never regreted it...got a lot of invaluable information for staying sober, and made some terrific sober friends in the bargain.

And good luck to you as well. Glad to hear you've been going to aa meetings. And yes, they do take a while to get used to. I expected to see a room full of wino's in fingerless gloves.
Have you considered getting or have you gotten a sponsor yet?
