Hi the name is Dave and I live in England . After years of drinking I have now been dry for 23 days . I am attending a local AA group and although the people are great I am struggling a bit with the God side of things . Still I will persevere with it for now . Glad to have found this site and hope to stay around .

Hi Dave,
Welcome to our recovery community and well done on your sober time. Glad you're going to AA - you're not alone with the 'God thing' - just take it piecemeal for now, and a day at a time. Things will fall into place.
I hope you stick around and keep posting.

Hi alfa,
Welcome to S.R. I'm an english girl- also attending A.A. Although i personally haven't experienced probs (so far) with the God side of things, many do. I dont know if you've got a Big Book? If so, there's a chapter on the 'agnostic' and also many personal stories at the back, with ppl who had the same intitial prob eith a Higher Power- but all over came it their own way. My dad has been sober in A.A nearly 40 yrs- he's an atheist. He chooses to use A.A. itself as his Higher Power- and it's certainly worked for him!
