good books about addiction
Have any of you read any good books about addiction? My mom noticed how down I had been so she brought me a book to read (I love to read) it was a "LOVE STORY" I took it and said thank you, but in the back of my mind just though 'love ha, I could puke, last thing I want to read is how somebody falls inlove and lives happily ever after' but it got me thinking, I miss reading. Seems I'm consumed with his addiction these days. I think I would enjoy reading a book that I can conect with.......... Any sugestions?:atv
I just finished "The Heroin Diaries" written by Nikki Sixx and was really blown away by it.
The Heroin Diaries by Nikki Sixx is his site where you can find information and excerpts.
He's a really incredible person in a way because I think he was destined to become just another "dead rockstar", but now that he's been sober a few years, he's kind of undergoing a creative renaissance.
Another piece of non-fiction about the subject of addiction that I would recommend is Dr. Drew Pinsky's "When Prescription Drugs Become Dangerous". To me, he's a real voice of reason when it comes to solutions for recovery. He stresses 12 step programs and more importantly - the "family disease" aspect of addiction; that the path to a truely successful recovery requires treating the whole family. I agree with a lot of what he says.
Hope that gives you some ideas.

Oh, I thought she was looking for Alanon or self-help type books.
I remember reading a book called "The End of the Rainbow" by Mary A. Crenshaw:
Amazon.com: End of the rainbow: Books: Mary Ann Crenshaw
Maybe a library would have a copy.
