I've got some problems.
Hey everybody. This is my first post. I'm 19. I had/have lots of problems. Poly-drug abuse. Alcoholism. Self injury. I've been off all drugs since November 07. And since last summer I've only drank at parties and only small amounts. I stopped hurting myself earlier in 2007, except for one slip up a few weeks ago. I'm glad that I got myself on track. Because I really was out of control. I did a lot of bad things, and thinking about it kills me.
I thought my struggle was over, but recently I've gotten very depressed and I'm having really bad anxiety issues. I get very scared, and often can't sleep. I think about myself before all the issues and drugs, and it feels like things will never be good like that again. Feels like drugs took the best pieces of me away for good. I don't have very many people I can confide in. Over time I pushed most of my friends away without realizing it, and now I miss them so much. I still have a few left thank God. Without them I never would've made it this far.
I'm out of a job right now. I just feel so worthless and lonely all too often. I'm scared things will always be like this, or will get worse. I'm going to see a counselor soon.
This forum seems like a really good place. I'm glad I found it. My name is Mike btw.

hi Comfy -
welcome to SR!
Hopefully we can be of some comfort to ya as well - this is a great place.
About the anxiety - might want to drop by the 'Mental Health' forums and read the stickies at the top of the forum. Same thing with alcoholism forums.
Are you in a porgram of recovery?
Have you looked into it?
Again, welcome to SR!
Hang out - do some reading - thers will be along shortly to welcome you.

Hey, Mike, welcome to SR. Seeing a counselor is a very good idea--for me, if my depression and anxiety aren't under control, then neither is my drinking. Checking in with your doctor might not be a bad idea either, especially if you haven't been keeping him in the loop on all this. (I don't know if you have been or not.)
Re: programs/support groups, you've got your pick. I've been to both AA and NA meetings, both are great (in my experience AA is slightly less anxiety-producing). If your anxiety is too high for face-to-face meetings right away, I know both AA and SMART have daily online meetings. A google search might yield some SI support groups, too.
Best of luck! Stick around, this is a good community.

Mike, maybe you should see a professional about your anxiety. It is good to let things out though. Being 19, the best years of your life are yet to come. Don't worry about that. There is a lot to look forward to.
Hey Mike -
about the recovery deal -
you can find one right in the front of the phone book - Alcoholics Anonymnous. Ask about information or a number for alateen in your area.
not only is it free - anonymous - it's just about impossible ..
to find any place where it's NOT.
Just call up Alcoholics anonymous.
It's a resource center.
trust me.
glad to see ya checking in!
