7 Months Clean Sober and in AA
I came to SR seeking wisdom that had bearing on my 12 step program. So when I go to posts like 12 step support and the forum on Alcoholism I am really looking to get some good information from sober members of AA.
I start my day with daily meditation and prayer and turn on the PC to see if there is anything good being talked about. I normally look for something that I can relate to and something that I can possibly talk about. I consider SR a great addition to my support program. Because of SR I find myself doing tons of research and I like that very much.
7 months ago today I was arrested for drug possession in a school zone, cocaine. I left the house that night completely drunk making a joke about getting arrested as I left. I had been exposed to AA in the past but don’t drink and go to meetings didn’t work for me. I was arrested on a Friday and at Monday morning’s AA meeting I asked someone to be my sponsor. This man took me through the 12 steps, had me read the Big Book, and suggested I get to a meeting everyday. I was just beat, wanted to stop, hopeless and wished for the end.
Everything in my life today is much better then it ever has been. I had no intention of coming into AA and asking for help it just kind of turned out that way as if my number came up for the draft or something.
I am now a grandfather, I have been to a funeral, experienced two incredible weddings, vacationed in Florida, had my first sober Halloween, hosted my first Thanksgiving, had a great Christmas, and New years. I’ve enjoyed my hobbies and have been more productive in my clubs than ever before. I also kicked off the New Year by seeing the New England Patriots in Foxboro.
Yesterday I celebrated 3 years with the woman I married and love. I can’t say enough for what God and AA’s 12 steps have done for me. It wasn’t easy in the beginning but I made a decision and I’ve stuck to it and today I celebrate 7 months clean and sober. I never thought in a million years that the desire to drink and drug could be lifted, it's amazing.
