Heath Ledger
He had some great movie roles that I was very impressed with, but I don't think he had hit his stride yet. I was watching and waiting and knew it would just be a matter of time.
What a shame for such a young talent to go so young, whatever the cause.

He played an addict in the recent movie titled Candy. He appeared a natural in that role.
His death is no more tragic than the sons, daughters, husbands/wives, fathers, mothers and friends we know about here at SR who suffer and die from addiction.
Yet, his fame allows the world to see the tragedy that many of us live with.
Drugs kill!!!

Sad, yet no more sad than the number of average people who die each day because of ODing, or suicide, or substance abuse.
I don't know whether I'm super-aware of addictions since witnessing the decline of my XABF, but it seems like it's everywhere.

I nearly started a thread about Heath's death earlier, but thought it might not be forum-appropriate, since our greater focus here (from what I've seen thus far) is more centered on ourselves and each other than on celebrities, news, etc.
That said, I feel compelled to say that his death is an illustration of why we're all here. Life isn't an unalienable right-- it's a priviledge, and one that we can't take for granted.
I was quickly on my way to ending up exactly where he did, and it's a harrowing reminder when I think that he was only a year older than me. Not to mention the cat from the Client!
I've heard it said many times in meetings etc, but I have to add:
There, but for the grace of God, go I.
So sad.
Best to all,
B'sT

i feel for his family , his daughter and his ex girlfriend who he had apparently split with in sept 07...
they say she was heartbroken over the split and now is completely devastated.

This is what makes me sad that we have all the answers to everyone elses problems. It seems Heath dies from a drug overdose and we all have to think the worst. What if it was accidental with sleeping pills - who knows maybe he couldn't sleep. That doesn't make you an addict. We need to stop jumping to conclusions and get back to OUR own reality.

It's a shame he has died -- he was gifted at his craft, and a bright and handsome guy.
But the official reports are saying that the autopsy is inconclusive. We're writing the guy off as a drug addict based on the gossip machine? I'll wait for the real news.....still a shame, no matter what. It always is.
