Howdy all...
My name is Nindy and I'm from Melbourne, Australia.
Just thought I'd register and say a quick hello to you all.
Guess we've all got something in common here so I'll start by saying I have a problem with alcohol and I've decided I no longer want it to be a part of my life. I don't drink all the time but when I do (which is around once a week) I binge drink to the point where I don't know what I'm doing or saying.
It's only been two days since my last drink but I look forward to that number growing. Hopefully I'll pick up some advice on this forum on what others have done to help keep them sober.
Feel free to say hi and I look forward to chatting.

Hi all,
Thank you very much for your kind words, it is immensely appreciated.
I have been drinking since I was around 15 and I've now turned 29. So it's been a while coming I guess but it's just good to take the first step and admit I have a problem with alcohol.
I'm just gonna take it one day at a time and see how it all goes.
I'll certainly be looking for outside assistance and I appreciate any help I can get.
Sorry, but I can't PM till I've got 5 posts.
Thanks again.

Hi Nindy, I started when I was 13 and now I'm 31 - not far off really!
Good luck, and welcome - it's a good spot, and always nice to have another Aussie around the traps.
Keep reading, and most importantly - if you're not going to drink any more, then I would start by not drinking at all. If you need help detoxing or getting through withdrawals, read the posts here and consider going to a doctor..
I am only 22 days sober, but it's been the best 22 days I've had in a long, long time.

Well I went to my local AA meeting last night to find the meeting hall locked with no one there. Not sure where everyone was but I've found another one for tonight and I'm looking forward to my first meeting

Had my first AA meetng last night and it wasn't as bad as I thought it might be. Actually, I spent a fair bit of it laughing and feeling really good. I was made to feel very welcome and everyone kept saying how it was good to see a young person there.
It was an ID meeting so people stood up and told their stories. Amazing journeys some have been on and it made me feel a little better knowing that if they can do it, then so can I.
I've now got a booklet with a list of different meeting places and I'm gonna give a few of them a go.
Day 4 and still sober

Had my second AA meeting tonight. New venue and about 5 times the number of people. Many were even younger than me and I'm only 29 so I really felt comfortable being there. When people get up and speak, it's amazing how much of what has happened to them reminds me of some of my drinking days. Really touches you deep down inside if you know what I mean.
Well it's after midnight here in Oz so I better get some sleep before work tomorrow morning. Have a good day all you in the NH.

Welcome to SR Nindy, AA is what saved my life, I retired from a 40 year drinking career thanks to detox followed by AA. SOunds as though you are listening for the similarities and not for the differences in the meetings, that is excellent.
If you have been given phone numbers call them, people in AA give out thier numbers because when someone calls them it helps them to stay sober as well as you.
Next meeting you go to go a bit early and ask someone before the meeting about what a temporary sponsor is and how to go about getting one. A sponsor is a mentor/guide in AA and is really crucial for good happy long term sobriety and also some one to help you work the steps.
