one week!
I just went over one week.... Doing pretty good, but having insane headaches. I don't know if this is normal so I figure I will just suffer through them. Anyways, just looking to see if anyone has any advice on finding something other than drinking to do to absorb my free time.
HI and welcome to SR - I don't know about the headaches, but thought you might be interested in a thread called "If I don't drink - then what?" that is on the Newcomers forum - lots of good thoughts there on what to do instead of drinking. If the headaches keep up, you can always check with your doctor.
Congrats on one week!

Reading, starting a journal, gardening, researching an interesting topic, join a gym, take a walk outside (mine walks have turned in a my jogs..which feels awesome!), volunteer at a local nonprofit, cook delicious food for dinner, clean the house .. yuck!!
Pretty much live life...which i know for me was not so easy when i was drinking!!
as for the headaches...no idea. My headaches were from denying myself caffine (ugh..another wonderful habit!!)
Congrats on the week!! That is awesome!:bounce
Hi tiredsoldier and welcome
I know exactly what you mean about what to do, spare time is a killer at this point - I get so obsessed with avoiding drinking I want it even more..
Congrats on a week!! AA meetings could be a good start - I am on day 2 and need to do that myself although gym and exercise are helping me right now.
Good luck and stay strong.

Hey tiredsoldier I had seen your blog so it's especially good to see you join us here on Newcomers. Well done on 4 days - are you familiar with symptoms of PAWS? I'll grab a link for you - I hope you find it helpful.

I try and keep busy doing things that make me feel good - stengthens me physically and mentally - fitness, visiting/catching up with friends/relatives, playing with my kids, work around the house, reading (for fun & sobriety related), watching movies/sports. I do also believe that it is okay to just be 'lazy' and channel surf or play on the internet - sort of give myself a break, not worry about things. An evening doing 'not much' beats an evening drunk everytime!

Welcome tiredsoldier....glad to see you here with us.
Have you had a recent sober medical check up?
How about an eye exam or dental?
Headaches can be caused by many things.
I know my drinking did a lot of damage
and I certainly neglected my health
during my active addiction.
Congratulations on your sober time!

just wanna say hello tiredsoldier, four days is great
make sure you are eating, drinking (plenty of vitamin C is good) err no alcohol)
and rest your body when it calls out for it.
basically, take it easy
i pass the time doing all those jobs i should have done when i was drinking, i also went back to night school to study maths.
