Question quiting makes me feel worse!

iv just woke up to the real world here and decided to give up my drinking, im doing prety well i think, its only been a week but, thats after not going a day without alcohol in 6 years and im only 24, i decided to quit after complaining of many health problems to my doctor with no avail as to what was causing them, then after hours and hours of reaserch i was able to connect all of my health problems to drinking, i have tried to quit a few times and it seems to allways go the same: the first day is rough and a few days pass and i start feel well again but then out of nowhere all of the symtoms i have pop up again and dont seem to subside so i go stright back to the booze. id love some advise as to get past that point of relaps, PLEASE HELP,

Hi T Bone,

Welcome and good for you for deciding to stop drinking.

I think you need to be patient and to allow your body to heal. It won't happen overnight. If your health problems persist after you've stopped drinking, then it's time to talk to your dr again. Have you made other changes in your life besides stopping drinking? I hope you will continue to read and post because you will find lots of support and information here.

T_Bone,

Welcome to SR, and congratulations on your choice to be sober. You might want to check out the thread for those with 2 weeks or less--it really helped me in the beginning. I'm sure many will be along to extend a welcome and offer support.

I have gotten some good advice in the thread I started today, Grateful to be sober . . ., about dealing with that voice that tries to get us to relapse (this is my 16th day).

I wish you the best, and welcome again.

Welcome TBone...I can tell you that it gets better...it's not a bed of roses, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel. As i read from people that are further out than i am, i am encouraged to hear that not only does it get better physically, but emotionally as well. I think the trick used by most in that happy stable state is either AA or a program like it. hope you stay with us...this place is incredibly supportive, and the people here really seem to care.

Hi T -

yes it does get better. it takes some effort though. you're doing great to be posting here, as it reads as if you're having trouble doing this alone. don't feel bad - almost none of us could. that's why this place is so popular.

good for you and your decision!

Glad to see you are headed for a healthy future.
Congratulations!

Have you considered a program for support?
I do use AA for enjoying sobriety.

...Welcome to SR!
