Introduction
Hi all.I'm new here but not new to recovery. I'm a 51 years old female recovering alcoholic with almost 4 years of sobriety. After 13 years of sobriety I had a relapse (lasting 4 months), due to a very painfull divorce. I started feeling depressed and every negative feeling you could think off, so what could be better than "a drink" to make me feel normal. After those 4 months and thanks to my daughters help I went into hospital for a 10 days detox, there I was put in contact with The New Life Program (Women for sobriety) and have been a member since then. By taking part in a program I realized that during those 13 years I was only a "dry drunk" without any idea of how to get better. I guess what I'm trying to do with these long post is to reinforce to the new people in recovery the importance of participate in a program, share our experiences and strengh with others alcoholics or addicts (in our program we do not separate alcohics from addicts, we all work together). I can not recover on my own but "WE" can recover together. Because I have been working very very hard in my recovery I find myself moderating two of our groups at the moment. That gives me grate satisfaction, to be able to give them what was so freely given to me.Thanks Swamijapa

Swamijapa: thanks so much for your post. I'm not even a newbie. I'm a pre-newbie, having a bad Christmas. I'm on the verge of making this move, and your advice is very much among those I'll follow. Participate in the program. Share my experiences. I can't recover on my own, but I can recover together with others.
I'm very grateful to you for posting today. Thanks. I'm sending you good vibes. Keep at it.

Thanks all for your replies. I'm really happy to have made the decision to join this forum. I have been reading for the last two months and every day I realise the honesty, compassion and caring of the members are overwhelming. I have ben sober for 4 years now but I can still do with extra help and if possible by helping somebody else. Very happy in recovery swamijapa
Welocome swamijapa!
I am so glad that you found us and decided to join. We are a wonderful group with tons of experience, strength and hope to share with you.
As an aside, I love your name. I am an ayurvedic healthcare practitioner and yoga therapist, and i loved the way you threaded together japa into your name. May sobriety, one day at a time, be like reverent repetition of japa in your life!

Welcome to SR and I am really glad you are here. Needing support of other addicts and alcoholics in recovery is the only way to go for me. I agree 100 %. I too was a dry drunk for quite some time, and now that I am really working a strong program with some really great supporters and friends I would not have it any other way. Keep up the good work.
.....and Merry Christmas.
