TOPIC: Living Without Having A Drink/Drug. Live W/out Wanting It. Freedom Of Bondage.
Hi Im Sharon and Im an Alcoholic.
By the Grace of my HP and people
like you here in SR I havent found
it necessary to pick up a drink of
alcohol since 8-11-90.
For that and you I am truely grateful.
The passage below is taken from the
Fourth Edition of Alcoholics Anonymous, pgs. 549-50
I just got this new book in large print
and can now go to the pages and hylight
this passage and know it is important.
From "Freedom from Bondage":
"The A.A. members who sponsored me told me in the
beginning that I would not only find a way to live without
having a drink, but that I would find a way to live without
wanting to drink, if I would do these simple things. They
said if you want to know how this program works, take the
first word of your question—the 'H' is for honesty, the 'O' is
for open-mindedness, and the 'W' is for willingness; these
our Big Book calls the essentials of recovery."
H O W or W H O
Sometimes its the honesty that usually
comes last as we learn the willingness
to go to any lengths to stay clean and
sober.....then the open-mindedness...
keeping an open mind to suggestions
to the right things to do in recovery....
Learning to live without a drink takes
practicing the principles set down
before us in our program.....
Then u learn thru the principles and steps
how to live without wanting to drink or
The desire to drink was lifted from me
from the very beginning....abstinence
has been somewhat easy as i have had
the strength behind the fellowship to
guide me along.....also belief in Something
far greater than i to also give me strength
and courage to stay on the right path.
Have you learned how to live without
wanting to drink?
Thanks for letting me share.
