Playing it safe
"If you play it safe in life you've decided that you don't want to grow any more."

The safe route will always be there. Instead of considering it an option, why not consider it a net? That way, you're free to try something different. You can throw caution to the wind, knowing that if you fail, you'll always have something to catch you.
My safe route was always drinking and I had to walk out into the unknown and it was very scary for me, heck it still is.
Just thought I would share, I get these quotes every week in my email and they always help me with my recovery.

Change is always scary and so is 'letting go'. I used to be a control-freak extraordinaire and was so afraid of what would happen if I didn't hold on tightly. Well, what happened was depression/anxiety/anger, followed by a few years of drinking.
You are so right Anna, I also had this problem, and I still fight with holding on too tightly. And the effects of this being the onset of "depression/anxiety/anger" so true so true.
Thank you (I miss the Thank you button, hehehe)

Hi Krissy,
I played it safe for many years in that I stayed stuck in the cycle of addiction and wasn't willing to give up what was familiar.
It took one heck of a leap of faith to let go of old behaviours, booze, pills, and relationships. I wasn't growing, I was dying.
Getting sober was a huge risk for me - it was all so unfamiliar and I was terribly frightened.
I'm glad I am willing to take risks and to accept growth as a part of life today.

Oh wow! thanks so much for the quotes. I am approaching some unknown territory that I'm scared to walk through. I didn't get sober to avoid life. I guess it's time to grab my hp's hand and do some growing. Thanks for the inspiration
