Chocolate craving mystery solved??
Chocolate craving mystery solved??
I tried posting under the thread I started but for some reason it wouldnt let me in!! Some may remember, I was craving and eating an ungodly amount of chocolate. I got my blood test results back today and apparently the only thing wrong is I'm anemic. My doc told me that this can cause all sorts of food cravings ( I was craving ice chips too, but thought I was thirsty). On top of that I was getting really weird creepy crawling feelings in my legs and arms at night and was sleeping 12-14 hours (usually sleep no more then 5, I've been a lifetime insomniac!) and my heart was always pounding out of my chest. Anywho, I feel quite sheepish as I'm a nurse myself and can't believe didnt but two and two together. Can drinking cause anemia? Besides that I can't think of any good reason I would be. Anyway, doc gave me to meds and hopefully I'll be back to my sleepless, non creepy legged self with a normal heart rate in no time. Thanks for all the posts.. I see theres more but can't read them!

Hi Irish,
A couple of years into sobriety (the first time), I too was diagnosed anemic. I don't think there is any correlation between iron deficiency and alcoholism but I may be wrong.
Also, I get crawly sensations in my legs, but it's restless leg syndrome. For me, it's brought on my anxiety and stress. I've never heard of it in your arms, so I'm not sure what is causing yours.
There was a crash on this site yesterday and some threads and posts were lost unfortunately.
Good to see you are still with us and committed to recovery.

Actually alcohol attacks every single organ and cell in ones body, so it is hard to say if ones drinking is the cause of something or not.
Many deaths due to heart attacks, pancreatic cancer, bladder problems and the like are actually direct results of alcoholism, sadly the only thing one dies from that a doctor will atribute directly to drinking is cirrosis of the liver.
Deaths due to alcohol are far higher then what the statistics indicate.
Glad to hear you went to the doctor and found out what is up.
