There were more Native Americans than there were pilgrims.
In 1941 Thanksgiving was moved up 1 week to stimulate early Christmas shopping? (well that one works!)
101 puritans left England, only 50 survived the first Winter and only 5 of them were women and they cooked the meal for everyone else of course!

Thanksgiving wasn't an annual thing...there was the first, then nothing for quite awhile. Pres Washington declared Nov 26 1789 as a day of prayer and Thanksgiving but the annual proclamation stopped for quite awhile in the 1800's until Abe Lincoln brought it back as Lobo said.
And here's one I never would have thought about Minnesota is the turkey growing winner in the US
